Cologne, Germany

Continuing down the Rhine River, we visited Cologne today. Fascinating history. Originally a Roman city, it has experienced financial struggles and decline in recent years. The cathedral costs $14 million per year to maintain. The most visited cathedral in Germany, its gothic architecture makes it a central anchor in the city. Construction began in the 1100s and took hundreds of years to complete. Other fun facts- Cologne has its own language and its own method of making beer. Also known for making watches and cologne.
