Rested, Blessed, and Holy

Today’s post is a different format. I’m calling it a thought bubble as I’m still thinking about the topic and I would love for you to share your insights.

I started a new Bible reading plan this year with hopes of reading through the Bible again within one year. (Side note: I know people have mixed feelings about this approach. The Bible is meant to be digested and consumed, not a scheduled, perhaps rushed, read through. I personally think that both have merit - reading on a schedule as well as digging deep.  So I’m not here to debate that.  At least not today.)

What I do want to talk about is creation and something I’ve never noticed before. For each of the days that God created, we see a very distinct pattern and the words that conclude each day.  “There was evening and there was morning the _th day.”  However, the seventh day doesn’t say that.  Instead, it says God rested, blessed it, and made it holy.  No concluding statement.  As if the posture of the seventh day is what set the world in motion. The seventh day was the punctuation for the week that had just been created.  Another week would then follow, based on that place of being rested, blessed, and holy.

What if we were sent out each week as rested, blessed, and holy? What would our lives look like?  Would we be more patient and loving?  Would we lead more fulfilling, joyful lives?

I’m still thinking about this.  In the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What does it look like in your life?  Please share your thoughts as well as stories of how you do this in practical ways.

In the meantime, I’m still thinking about the reading from day one, while I continue to stay on track with the reading plan.
