There seems to be a trend towards “less” in our culture, especially related to reducing the stuff in our lives. Marie Condo. Tiny homes. Minimalistic design. I’m in favor of each of these, but I’m curious about the trend.
Is it possible that we’re finally starting to realize that stuff doesn’t satisfy our deepest desires? Maybe.
I’d love to talk to the masses of people who are successful in downsizing. What are they making room for as they walk away from tangible items? It seems that people are chasing adventure, or leisure, or even peaceful surroundings. My real question is if they’re simply chasing something else that won’t fulfill our truest longings.
I believe that the “more” we’re longing for is Jesus. John 10:10 supports this as it tells us that Jesus came so we could have an abundant life. Not an abundance of things, but a never ending, soul satisfying connection with Him. Peace, joy, hope, love. His offer is better than anything this world has to offer. Will we make more room for Him?
