Identity

“Hi, I’m Cinderella,” the young girl proclaimed as she waited patiently for her turn in the Amish horse and buggy ride. Every time her grandmother interjected an attempt to tell us her given, four-year-old name, the girl protested. She was determined that not only was her name Cinderella, but she was indeed Cinderella, the princess, not a young preschooler. She looked like a little girl punctuated by the jelly stains on her pink t-shirt.  She acted like a little girl as her legs dangled, twitched and swirled from the bench upon which she was perched. Yet, in her mind she was a princess and there was no use trying to convince her otherwise.

If only we would view ourselves as princesses, as children of God. Image if we were so rooted in our identity of as a child of God.

What would happen to fear and worry? It would vanish.

What would happen to pride and arrogance? It would evaporate.

What would happen to failure? It would cease to exist.

Today, ask yourself, “what would it take to fully understand and step into your true identity?”

Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is illusion.  Brennan Manning
