La Spezia
Scott left early this morning to begin his travel home. Since I was awake to see him off, I started my day a little early with listening to an audiobook and taking time to write. Then I set out for the day.
Just one train stop from Riomaggiore, La Spezia is a much larger city and is hosting their annual San Giuseppe Fair. A huge, three-day gathering, I was shoulder to shoulder with throngs of people. Nearly 500 vendors participate with an entire section of city shut down to make space for the booths and crowds. Food, clothing, leather, craftsman, vacuum cleaner salesmen, cooking demos, balloons, housewares, jewelry — it was all there.
I don’t love crowds or chaos, but it was fun to see all the activity.
Bonus: I made record time hiking down to the train station and back up again. By 2pm, I’d walked over seven. The afternoon included a nap and more reading while my legs recovered.
