River Cruising - My two cents
Scott gets motion sick on ocean cruises but he wanted to try a river cruise. He did lots of research and decided on AmaWaterways. We’ve been asked numerous times if we’d recommend it so I’m sharing our thoughts here.
It’s very different than how we typically travel, however, I think it helped us slow our pace and settle into a mindset of rest.
There were 85 guests on the cruise, which was approximately half capacity. We purposefully went during the early (slow) season to help with costs and reduced crowds. We were very fortunate with weather! Everyday was sunny and pleasant temps.
What I loved about the cruise:
The food exceeded my expectations. They often served regional dishes that aligned with the area we were visiting and everything was delicious. Wine was included, not an extra expense.
It was fun to see familiar faces throughout the week. We met some amazing people and even shared dinners together.
Zero planning was necessary. One excursion was included each day and transportation included.
The room was nice, and the ship had various spaces to move about and enjoy.
It was a great way to see a sampling of Europe with stops in Netherlands, Germany, France, and Switzerland.
It was great to unpack for the week and have the convenient of the “hotel” moving with us.
Staff were very friendly, helpful, accommodating.
Other observations:
We were some of the younger guests on board.
The cities started to look alike. Cathedrals, castles, etc.
Would we do it again? Maybe. But most likely for a destination that we didn’t feel comfortable navigating ourselves.
Note: I’m including pictures of the river locks. We passed through about 10 of them, often at night. But Scott captured photos of a few of them.
