Happy Endings

Every day has the possibility of a happy ending. Not because it was a great day necessarily, but because of God’s love for us.

I’ve come to love sunsets for this very reason. Sunsets have come to be a reminder for me. A reminder to rest. A reminder that God is present. A reminder that it’s God who keeps the earth spinning. Nothing in this world depends on me. Whew…what a relief!

So, when I see a colorful sunset from the window, I will stop what I’m doing and literally run to the edge of our property to see it. I’m not exaggerating about the running part. I’ve actually scraped my knees a time or two as a result. I’m at an age now where running in inappropriate footwear is dangerous. As in, running in Crocs or Biirkenstocks. I don’t recommend either.

My husband and kids know how much I love sunsets. They’ll call on their way home and tell me to go outside and look. Or my husband with Google “best places to see the sunset” when we travel to new places.

There’s something soothing about them. Peaceful. An invitation to remember that the world doesn’t rest on my shoulders. I need that reminder often. And watching the sunset each day is the perfect dose of God’s beauty, creativity, and presence.

I hope you take time to savor a sunset or two this week. Be sure to thank God for His goodness while you do.
